Help Prices & the market Why the sample size matters more than the median

Why the sample size matters more than the median

A middle price from 4 listings can be luck. From 40, it is a real price.

Next to the price, Listed for says how many listings it came from. Read that number first.

Few listings means one odd price can move the result a lot.

What a small number does

With 4 listings, one seller who asks far too much changes the middle price. With 40, one seller changes almost nothing.

Flogit already drops prices more than 3 times above or below the middle. That helps, but it cannot fix a list that is too short.

Read the range too

The range shows if sellers agree on a price.

  • Narrow range, many listings: a real going price. Price near it.
  • Wide range: condition, size or model matters a lot. Look at the listings under On Vinted now and compare with yours.
  • Narrow range, few listings: this can be chance. Do not read it as agreement.

The minimum in Settings

In Settings, Selling tools, Price checks, there is Fewest similar listings needed. It starts at 5.

Below that number, suggested counter offers do not use the market price.

Lowering it lets counter offers use the market more often. It does not make the market price more true.

Rare items

Some items have nothing similar on sale. No tool can price those well.

For those, look at Sells for. Your own past sales of a similar item are the best guide you have.
